Democrat Profile: BEV KEMP By Jackie Stephens
Bev Kemp (Precinct Captain Pct 8) was born in Honolulu and grew up just north of New York City in Pleasantville New York. Bev has had an active career as a military wife and traveled around the country with her submariner husband for thirty years. When she and her husband Denny retired in Idaho Falls in 1988, Bev became involved in multiple volunteer and philanthropic activities. Bev has served on the Board of Trustees for the Idaho Falls Public Library and is currently on the board for the Friends in Service Here (FISH) which is a last resort assistance organization that helps people in need. Bev has said she considers herself to be a member of the, “religious left” and she serves as a lay leader at Trinity United Methodist Church. Several years ago, Bev and others helped to start an annual tradition of an interfaith, progressive dinner that promotes understanding and communication between local churches. Bev considers herself a lifelong Democrat and first became active during John F. Kennedy’s campaign. In the past she has been state committeewoman for the Bonneville Democrats and has put in many hours working on floats, helping put on banquets and picnics and rolling up her sleeves to help with various campaigns. Bev is a Democrat because she says that the values of the Democratic Party best match her values. She says, “The Democratic approach to issues always seems to be the compassionate approach”. Compassionate is a good word to describe Bev Kemp. |
