Democrat Profile:  Carrie Crom

Carrie Crom is a happily retired program manager who worked for the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare for many years before retiring in 2002. She was born in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio and came to Idaho in 1973. She is using her retirement productively to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate.

Carrie is what I would call a quiet activist. She works prodigiously but shies away from recognition. I’ve known her to practically put on a function by herself but when the event comes, she stays home to rest, while the rest of us reap the fruit of her labor.

Carrie is the currently the secretary of the Bonneville County Democrats. She got involved with the Democrats during Jerry Brady’s 2002 campaign. She is more to the Democrats though, than just our secretary. I think those of us who have been active for any length of time would all agree that Carrie is the backbone of the party. She does the grunt work of setting up meetings, keeping our calendars straight, printing up our notes and agendas, making reservations for our activities, helping on committees, running our errands and much more. In short, Carrie pretty much does what has to be done so that our organization can function.

Other local organizations that are benefiting from Carrie’s passion and work ethic include; Free Med which is an organization that helps people who can’t afford their medications to get assistance from pharmaceutical companies, FISH, which is a group of folks who help needy citizens in emergencies and SHIBA, which helps the elderly wade through the Medicare Part D program and get signed up for the program that best suits their needs.

Carrie’s family right now includes two absolutely gorgeous Belgian Tervuren’s—Dylan and Jaxon.  She has a long history with the breed.  Her second Terv, Dax, was number 10 in the United States.  She plays around with obedience and agility training.  She got Dylan from Rigby and Jaxon was shipped all the way from Boston.  When he arrived she took a short pupternity leave to make sure he got a good start in life.  He attended his first puppy kindergarten class the same week he arrived.

Carrie says she’s a Democrat because she believes in helping others. And when Carrie believes in something she really puts her heart and soul into it.  The Bonneville County Democrats are really lucky to have Carrie Crom behind us.
